It seems to me that there are at least five established facts in the case for the resurrection. The Pharisees not only remember hearing Jesus' Add this to the fact that no external sources reference the resurrection and the case is laid bare: it's mythology; it is not a historical fact. First, in Matthew 28:62-64, just after the crucifixion, the Pharisees go to Pilate and discuss Jesus' prediction of his own resurrection, warning Pilate that Jesus' tomb must be secured so that the disciples cannot fake a resurrection. I've started reading a book from Gary Habermas and Mike Licona called The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus. That being the case, let's conduct a brief tour of each possible explanation of the resurrection. I want to grant the strongest possible case allowable for the resurrection of Jesus. Paul's citation of this creed constitutes the opening statement in the case he makes against those who would deny that the Body of Christ, the Church, will one day be raised from the dead as Christ Himself was. €and if Christ hath not risen, vain is your faith, ye are yet in your sins;”. These are the core facts of Jesus' resurrection, and these facts are not disputed by any educated historian, secular or religious. The following post is based on The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus by Michael Licona and Gary Habermas. All quotes are taken from this book unless otherwise noted. Paul will essentially go on to argue that the bodily resurrection of Christ and the bodily resurrection of the Body of Christ are part and parcel of one another–to deny one is to deny both and to completely deracinate the Christian hope.
